Small Fishing Boats - Perfect for River and Lake Fishing

Small fishing boats can be used for fishing on lakes, rivers, and large ponds. It can be fun to go out with a group of friends for a day on the water. River fishing has its own unique methods.

It is best to avoid major rivers, because the current can make it difficult to manage your boat. It is better to go to a tributary or smaller branch of a river for a calmer day. You and your friends can take a group of small fishing boats to a river for fun.

Before you go on your trip, you need to make sure you have the essentials. You need the small fishing boats of course. You also need your rod-and-reels for the fishing. You will need bait. You can use worms, liver, minnows, or any other bait you prefer. Most importantly, you do not want to forget the beverages and snacks.

When you all drive up in your vehicles with your boat trailers in tow, you will present quite a picture. Take turns putting your small fishing boats into the water. You can start the process each time by having someone get into the boat.

Then, you back up to the boat ramp just enough so that the boat can be eased in using the wench or crank. When the boat is in the water, it can be unhooked. Then the car can be driven back up the ramp and the next boat can unload.

To get to the center of the river, you need to start up your outboard motor and cruise to the current. Each boat can follow along until there is a line of small fishing boats. The idea is to float along slowly with the current.  These are definitely not Baja Boats that we are skippering.

Next, it is time to bait up your lines and throw them into the water. The small fishing boats should be far enough apart that people’s lines do not become tangled together. What one fisherman does not catch, the next one might.

If any of the small fishing boats should stray off course, it will be time to use the trolling motors. These are small horsepower motors that move boats very slowly. That way, you will not disturb the fish or the fishing environment of the other people.

Keep your fish fresh until you get home. Some small fishing boats have a live well in which to store them. If not, you can use a cooler. When you have caught your limit, you will have to stop hauling in the fish.

One of the most important parts of a fishing trip is food and drink. You can have beverages and snacks in the small fishing boats. When you are finished with the trip, you can use your large motor to go back to your starting point.  Then, you can reverse the process you used to get your boat in the water and get it out.
